Capsule Geology

The area of the Dome South showing is underlain by the Upper Cretaceous Kasalka Group consisting mainly of andesite or dacite breccia, tuff and/or flow, rhyolite, volcanic conglomerate and minor sedimentary rocks. The sedimentary rocks may be part of the Lower Jurassic Nilkitkwa Formation, Hazelton Group.

Drillholes DS09-02 and -03 were collared 395 metres south of the Peggy trench and tested a prominent, northwest-trending 3DIP chargeability high, resistivity low anomaly. The two holes intersected intermediate flows above a sequence of intercalated graphitic argillite, siltstone and volcanic ash. The sedimentary lithologies intersected in drilling appear to be an explanation for the chargeability anomaly, however the altered and mineralized volcanics intersected above the sedimentary package is regarded as significant.

Drill DS09-02 intersected 2.74 metres (from 25.26 to 28 metres depth) that assayed 4.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.13 per cent copper (Assessment Report 31457). This interval occurs at the boundary of andesite, tuffs and lahars with argillite and siltstone below. Chalcopyrite was also observed at depth at 124.85 and 156.73 metres depth.
